Imaginative Physician Energizes Patient By Singing Outside the Box

OK, I know it’s a little corny, and indeed, this story concerns a rural doctor, but thanks to KevinMD, we have been reminded that there are physicians who will go to any lengths to help their patients. Aware of how badly her elderly patient needed to be brought out of his delerium following hip surgery, this physician, discerning from the patient’s age that he might have enjoyed big band music, assembled some members of the hospital’s staff as back up, and began singing hits from the Big Band Era to him. It worked.

Awesome post, and I do think so many patients and medical companies forget how many physicians went into medicine in order to make a difference… sometimes that gets forgotten in the mishmash of litigation, claims denials, electronic medical records stimulus promises, and routine business stuff. I probably would perk up at Big Band music too… I think I was from another era.
